    Hi Andrea,

    Yes, the 50-section specs are what is used for the exams. It's not necessary to memorize them, but be familiar with what goes under each section. Some people still think they need to memorize all the sections but if you refer to sample item 8 in the PDD section of the ARE Handbook, that's the type of question you'll need to be able to answer. Hope that makes sense.

    ^^Totally agree with above.  You don't need to know that 08 71 00 is Door Hardware, but you should know that Division 8 is Openings.  I found the Masterformat at the end of Building Construction Illustrated to be a big help.  Also, if you're not too familiar with Divisions 00 and 01, what's included in them and what they're used for, I might recommend googling about them to find out more.

    This is helpful. I realized my BCI and Materials & Methods books were too old, so I'll use the trusty Google for the updated spec sections. Thank you!
