Hi - in general you need between 65% and 71% in all of the content areas to pass. Your report indicates to concentrate on 3. Building Systems, Materials and Assemblies (55%) and 2. Codes & Regulations (64%) and 4. Project Integration of Program & Systems (65%) but should do OK in Areas 1 (75%) and 5 (80%). The right column indicates the passing rate for all candidates as a comparison. The ARE5 Handbook Study reference includes recommendations but for areas 2-4 especially the following should help bridge the gap:

    • Architectural Graphic Standards
    • Building Code Essentials
    • Building Codes Illustrated
    • Building Construction Illustrated
    • Heating, Cooling, Lighting
    • ICC A117.1 Accessibility Codes
    • MEEB
    • Sun, Wind, and Light

The score reports are notorious. Use the calculator below to see how close you were to passing. I put your scores in and apparently you failed by only 3 questions.

    What is your overall score?

I think you tested very well based on your average score for PPD.  Maybe focus on Code and Building Systems to bring your average up a bit, but 68% overall is right in there.

That's less than 3 questions then - one or two at most.  The results our score report calculator tends to return usually overestimate by one or two when compared to the scaled score due to rounding.

The individual content area scores are useful for identifying any likely major gaps in your knowledge, but your total overall score is all that matters for whether or not you pass.  I really wish NCARB would reformat those score reports in future to make the scaled score far more prominent on the first page - or include it on the second page as well.  There are the most questions available in Area 3 and Area 4, so how you do in those sections has an outsize impact on your total score.

Overall summary - that is the score report of someone who should plan to review their notes generally and test again as soon as eligible.

Do not over-focus on any particular topics you remember from your test - the pool of topics PPD and PDD pull from is vast and it's relatively unlikely you'll see the same set of topics again.

I might have to agree and disagree with all of this. I have taken it several times, and, some I passed greatly and then other tests failed miserably. I don’t feel the score report is a great guide. So, I have taken it 7 times and have passed each at least once each of the content area. Im just weighing my mental state of mind before test 8.
