Hi there, I passed PPD on Saturday! It was my 3rd time on this Exam, I did switch from Architects Exam Prep. to Amber Book for those two after not passing the first time. It was the right decision, my colleagues from work all recommended it. My only advice besides Amber Book, read all the Flashcards they have great information and tips, for PPD read the flashcards for PA too.

Any recs for practice exams? That has been most effective for me.

Architects Exam Prep has the best questions. Their questions help you understand and memorize the key concepts, and they are very easy to read and understand. Amber Book was good, too. Its questions are similar to those on the exam.

I don't like We Are. I used it for two exams, and it did not help me. I think their questions are not well written. however, I like the website's layout and it is phone and iPad-friendly. After a couple of exams, I didn't feel like I needed the exam "vibe" or "layout" when I was answering questions, I wanted to be waiting in a waiting room or something similar and be able to open my phone and easily answer questions about key concepts while waiting. This is all about what works for you and what is your previous experience... my advice is, do not stop trying other options, I passed PPD for the third time after using all 3 apps, but suddenly the flashcards filled in information that I felt I was missing.

    Hi rdrewjr,

I'm sorry to hear that you were not finding the Black Spectacles practice exams helpful. Our team uses the same process, standards, and rigor that NCARB uses to ensure that our practice exams look and feel like the real thing. Therefore, while they are intentionally difficult, they are (hopefully) adequately preparing you for what to expect on exam day! Regardless of how you score on a practice exam, I encourage you to use them as a learning tool. Take the time to review answer explanations for each question (both correct and incorrect answer options) so that you can deeply understand the material, rather than simply memorizing the answers.

Keep in mind that NCARB establishes a cut score range for each division. The score you receive from NCARB on the real ARE will also exclude a certain number of pre-test items, which is something that the Black Spectacles practice exams does not factor into the score given. With that said, your practice exam score could be a bit skewed from what you would actually score on the real exam. Again, try not to get caught up in the numbers and instead, utilize study materials to enhance your knowledge.

If we can support you in any other ways along your ARE journey, don't hesitate to reach out! My email is kiaragalicinao@blackspectacles.com.

    Good luck!

    rdrewjr and snowocean,

When I took my exams, I focused heavily on active recall techniques like flashcards, quizzes, and practice exams, which really helped reinforce the information I was absorbing. I started with AB, which gave me a solid foundation and helped me build momentum early on. I also used BS for additional practice, they offer three mock exams. But both are on the pricier side. If you’re looking for more resources to practice with, feel free to DM me.

    Thanks,

    Rajan K.

I haven't, but that looks pretty good. I may try it for PDD.

I used the are questions $100 bundle for ppd and pdd. It was worth it. I mainly used amber book for all exams, though.
