NCARB Mock Exam Question- Topic Resource Management
An owner is assembling a project team for the conceptual design phase of an eight-story, greenfield office building development that will include underground parking.
Which team members should the architect recommend be required for this project team? Check the four that apply
CORRECT RESPONSES from NCARB
My answer was MEP, Structural, Geotechnical and Landscape architect because the second part of the question is asking "which project team members should the architect recommend" that to me meant that the architect was already included Am i making the wrong assumption here? Questions like this make me nervous because i'm not sure if it means i'm overthinking the question or if i'm understanding it wrong... if the bit about the architect was not iincluded i would have selected architect isntead of landscape architect. |

I’ve noticed that many people, myself included, often get these types of questions wrong on the tests. Personally, I would have chosen Arch, MEP, Geotechnical, and Landscape Arch, given their emphasis on the schematic phase. However, since NCARB grades these questions on a pass/fail basis, both of our answers would still have been incorrect.
The Amber book advises against spending too much time on multiple-answer questions due to the high likelihood of getting them wrong, especially with questions like this one which is nearing subjective preferences.
My advice would be to avoid letting these questions stress you out. All questions carry the same weight, and it's unrealistic to expect to get them all right. During the test, focus on answering the questions you're confident about, rather than getting bogged down by challenging ones like this.

You're not wrong in assuming this re: recommending the architect. However, it is the owner assembling the team. The architect could recommend engineers and site consultants but then who coordinates those together to build it? Conceptual design I feel also indicates that someone has to be mindful of the design and coordination of trades, and leads you to see the architect will be involved in some capacity.
Segment the question into the important terms and individuals/groups: An owner is assembling a project team for the conceptual design phase of an eight-story, greenfield office building development that will include underground parking. Then begin to think who would work on what, and who is potentially irrelevant to the assembly of the project team.
