PSI Testing Center Varying Locker Protocols
I would like to share my recent experiences as simple facts and hopefully can share to the community, and gain knowledge about any testing centers (TC) in CT with metal cubby-lockers outside the computer room.
I don't want to be connected to my cell phone inside the computer room like you are at the Testing Center in West Hartford, CT.
This center provides red bag-lockers, instead of cubby-lockers, that you put your belongs into ( whether or not they fit [ and there is no way of finding out which centers are like this per NCARB 202-879-0520 ]) This bag-locker is more constricted in space than metal cubby-lockers.
I turned my phone off in front of the TC workers. I put my phone in my bag in front of the TC workers. One TC worker opened the slit of a red bag-locker open and I stuff my reasonably-sized everyday bag into it. I was screened by security and I went inside the computer room. I put the bag over my chair just like all the other test takers, and I started taking my exam.
I had 6 questions left in the exam, I was over 2 hours into the exam, and my cell phone starts vibrating inside the locked bag that I cannot open. The same TC worker that saw me turn off my phone, and put my powered-down phone inside a locked bag-locker, was the same worker that tapped me on the shoulder and removed me from the computer room.
My exam was terminated.
The TC workers told me, after I've already followed all of their procedure,
this is why you were supposed to turn your cell phone off; like I did not turn my cell phone off in front of them just hours before putting it inside the bag-locker that is locked from me opening. The NCARB number I called (provided above) essentially said the same thing.
Whether in the process of stuffing my bag into their bag-locker, the power button on the side of the phone was squished back on, or whether me leaning the back of my chair into my cubicles side partition with the bag-locker pressing my phone into the furniture and turning it on.. the phone turned on back without me even touching it.
I was not refunded. The exam counted as an attempt and I failed... my score was only falling short by just a few more right answers.
It would be really helpful to have access ahead of time which TC 's have metal cubby-lockers separated from the computer room.
NCARB's suggestion for me was to leave my belongings inside of my car outside the building of the testing center. I am already driving alone to this center during work-day hours for 50 minutes from New Haven to West Hartford to take this exam that I've paid for. I'd rather not leave my $800 iphone in my locked car for 3 summer hours. I'm sure it's also my responsibility if my phone gets damaged or stolen inside the car parked right outside the center as well. So I don't think it is completely unreasonable to have metal cubby-lockers as an option at all TC's to secure my day bag inside the AC like I could do back in 2018 when I last tested.
Any similar experiences/ advice how other people deal with this, would be appreciated!
