    Hi Josh,

    I think the folks on this board have generally listed off the primary study tools available, and those you listed are kind of the cornerstone references. It is really important to vary the type of learning environment you use.

    I think in addition to resources, candidates should spend time thinking critically about HOW they are using those resources and more importantly their own time. In this Youtube video I describe how I passed all seven ARE 4.0 exams in 6 months, as well as some of my most suggested study tips. It is an excerpt from my ARE 5.0 Practice Management course.

    Hey Josh,

    Great question and great thread to get started!  All I will add is whichever combination of study materials and for-profit test prep providers you use, be sure and check them against the ARE 5.0 Handbook.  That document is produced by us and outlines all of the content in each of the divisions.  Focus on content not item types and practice items.  Hope this helps.

    For those who are looking for resource study tips, I've outlined Study Strategies.

    I've been using Ballast - it's great!

    I've been using Black Spectacles too, it's very general, and does not get specific. However I have liked it for filling in the real-life situations. But I suggest only signing up for the ARE 5 review, and not getting the package deal - I explained this in my Study Strategies above, but the package deal isn't a deal. There is too much to study along with work-life balance to take full advantage of all the video lessons. So sign up at month intervals and cancel the subscription each month if you plan to take a study break.
