It is my understanding that once you transition to 5.0 you cannot go back to 4.0. If you are looking to do CDS, SPD and PPP you need to pass all three in 4.0 before transitioning.

Thanks for the clarification! This is my intent as well. I've got my first exam, CDS, at the end of this month!

Hi Marina...James is correct.  Once you transition to ARE 5.0 you are not permitted to go back to ARE 4.0.

    Ryan -

Can you clarify what happens if you already have a 4.0 exam scheduled after the 5.0 launch? Will I be permitted to register for 5.0 exams on November 1st if I have a 4.0 exam scheduled in December, if the 5.0 exams are scheduled after the 4.0 exam?

    Thanks for the clarification.

    Alexandra -

If you already have an ARE 4.0 exam scheduled for after the launch of ARE 5.0, there are a couple things you can do: you can keep your ARE 4.0 exam appointment, test, and then transition; OR you can transition immediately, but you will lose your appointment and registration fee for the ARE 4.0 exam.  You can only be an ARE 4.0 candidate or an ARE 5.0 candidate - not both.
