Online Proctoring-Scheduling Issues_PSI
Hi, just want to share this post in case there are other people in the same situation.
This year I have passed 4/6 of the exams doing the online proctoring. I have Testing accommodations because English is not my first language. For the people that have done the online scheduling and proctoring, the way you schedule your exam, you pick a date and time available and automatically shows on your NCARB account, no phone calls required.
I tried to scheduled my fifth exam last week and the website didnt allow me to pick a date and time as it did before, instead I have to wait for PSI to call in the next 48 hours to schedule the appointment. Again this is online proctoring exam.
After 48 hours I called and spoke with a lady in South Africa, that said because of my accommodations I have to schedule by phone, she took my request of day and time and I waited for two more days. No call back from PSI and no scheduled exam yet. Im getting frustrated on how this happened, when before it was so simple.
Is anyone having similar issues?

Miguel,
NCARB has limited the use of a language dictionary to candidates taking exams in the test center only. This is an added security measure. Some candidates have opted to use the extra time only as an accommodation so they are able to continue to test remotely. The other option is to continue with extra time and use of a language dictionary and take the exam in the test center environment.
I hope this helps to clarify.

Thank you for the response, I never used the dictionary in any of the exams and didnt have any on hand, I appreciate the extra time.
My complain is not about the accommodations is about the scheduling. In the four exams I did this year I could pick a date and time without talking to someone on the phone, now its been a week and I am still waiting for the call back.
I dont understand why now the accommodations seems to be a problem for scheduling an online proctoring exam. Do you mean I have to remove the dictionary in order to schedule online?

Miguel,
Yes, the accommodated exams for in person testing have to be scheduled by phone. Given that you have both accommodations in your record, you are being limited to this testing option. If you would like to continue to test online, you can ask NCARB's customer relations to remove the dictionary accommodation from your record. You'll then be able to test remotely.
Customer Service can be reached at 202-879-0520.

Miguel,
This has been the policy since NCARB began providing the ESL accommodation. You were able to schedule to test remotely with both accommodations due to a development error by one of NCARB's testing partners. That error has since been corrected.
This information is available on page 16 of the ARE 5.0 Guidelines:

I am an ARE candidate approved for extra-time accommodations. I am experiencing an issue with scheduling:
-
I am unable to purchase more than one exam seat at a time.
-
I am only able to schedule one of the six ARE exams, even though I am eligible for all.
This limitation is preventing me from planning and completing my exams in a timely manner. I would appreciate guidance on how to schedule my remaining exams, and if possible, assistance with purchasing or scheduling them so that my accommodations are correctly applied.
If this requires escalation, please direct me to the appropriate person in the Accommodations Department or a supervisor who can assist. Also phone number is not an option and email takes long for answers.
