Looking for Good PSI Testing Centers in NYC
Dear ARE Community,
Can someone recommend a testing center in NYC or in the surrounding metropolitan area that is comparable to the Prometric Centers?
Due to personal reasons I haven’t been able to retake the last two exams (PPD, PPD) for a few years. My last test was at a Prometric Center. They were always great and never had issues.
Just when I thought I was ready to sign up for an in-person exam, I’m confronted with locations that are deeply concerning. Half the locations in NYC don’t even seem to exist when I google them. The locations I do find have horrible recent reviews or suspicious reviews that skew higher than the comments elude to. None of the locations seem to own computers made in the last 15 years and all seemed stuffed into tight spaces.
This isn’t inspiring much confidence in me taking my tests. I cannot do an at home test as I don’t have the set up. In addition, I have ADD and I would not be able to keep my eyes on the screen the whole time. I don’t do well with “tech issues” during the exam as I need every minute typically.
I don’t understand why testing centers have downgraded so badly. I genuinely expected better from NCARB. I hope I am overreacting, this has suddenly given me more anxiety than the actual test!
I would genuinely appreciate any help or advise.

Samantha,
Please contact NCARB's customer service if you are having difficulty locating a testing center. With an accommodation in place, this would be the best option. 202-879-0520.
As always, if you have a poor experience at a test center, notifying NCARB is the first step. We follow up with PSI as necessary.

Samantha, I go to the AVNA center downtown (139 Fulton Street) and my experience so far has been pretty good, I've taken all 6 divisions (5/6 passed) and waiting to do my 2nd attempt on PA. I live in Brooklyn so its convenient for me as it's right off the AC line (and many more) at Fulton Center. The test center is small (if you live in NYC you are probably used to small spaces) and the room where you take the NCARB exams is about 200 sqft (like 10x20' or 12x20') and has 9 stations. The bathroom is clean and the people who work there are pretty nice, they are also usually fairly flexible about your arrival time, if the subway broke down and you showed up like half an hour late, usually its not a big deal in my experience. It's by no means a fancy testing center but it's a place to get stuff done...
