Gyp sheathing vs plywood sheathing
When should you use Gypsum sheathing and when should you use plywood sheathing?
Can plywood sheathing be used for types I and II? If it is does it have to be FRT, since plywood is combustible?

The reason to use plywood (or OSB) is nearly always structural— you can nail into it and it provides shear strength. Gypsum sheathings are not structural, but they are non-combustible and can help achieve whatever fire rating is required.
I’m not sure if FRT plywood is ever used in Type I or Type II construction, but I’ve never seen it. Shear strength comes from either bracing or concrete.
