    No, I would not try to memorize formulas.  Which formulas are you looking at?  Just know how to read site plans and sections.  Understand where the optimal locations are for a building on the site (flatter areas, higher ground/not near flood zones).  Review parking lot design and ADA ramps.

    Site planning is not about formulas.  It is about broad concepts of Sun, Wind, and Light (heat), efficiency, and usage. 

    You really need to be confident about where (and WHY) a building should be situated on a given plot of land (site).  This involves things like site drainage (water management), existing features (grading, rocks, trees, etc), and overall planning (building entrances and services).
