You should use Amber book, from a parent of 3 who passed first try.
This is another Amberbook post about how I passed all my tests first try. I am going to echo another post I saw and say without a doubt that Amberbook works and here is why:
A little about me (for Context):
I am a 32 year old parent of 3 toddlers (ages: 5,3,2), I go to church regularly and have a responsibility there (Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints if your curious), and work roughly 9 hrs a day. I have been working for my firm for about 4 years. I am of average intellect, but I am good at taking tests usually. The following I say not to prop myself up, but to say that if I could do it then so can you...Seriously if I can you can.
My Study Routine (it was awful, but it got results):
If you didn't know Amber book requires you to study around 3-4 hrs a day. You do this for about 2 months, then you take all the exams at once. When I first saw this I thought that was crazy. I had talked to many people who spaced out each exam and studied for each separately. I talked to those who had passed the ARE 5.0 and told them that the Amberbook said to take them all at once because there is so much overlap and they looked at me skeptically and told me there wasn't that much overlap. They were wrong. If I had not taken them all at once I would have forgotten the material and not passed. Probably the biggest thing that helped was taking the practice exam from NCARB. That test was fantastic in seeing just how slowly I was answering the questions, because in the real test you have to answer fast. My story is simple, stick to what the Amberbook says and you will be better off for it. Seriously trust him!
Test time (didn't feel prepared):
By the time I went to take my first test I thought I would fail for sure. I went in thinking I would fail, not because I didn't know the material, but because after I took the practice test I realized just how hard the test were, but I had scheduled them already and didn't want to lose the money so why not try. (Tip: schedule them when he tells you too!) The questions were hard in the test, but I recognized the terms and concepts the Amberbook went over, which meant I at least knew what every question was getting at even if I didn't know the answer. In my case I took all the tests Friday/Saturday for 3 weekends in a row and passed them all, first try.
Conclusion:
I never used or looked into any other study guide, only Amberbook, so I cant attest if Amberbook is better or worse than the others, but I specifically chose them because their videos are interesting and they really explain how things work. They don't just go over question by question, but really help you understand the material so you can answer questions you have never seen before. I also used them because usually if something is easy, (like say only 1 hr study a day) then its not worth it. A lot of courses I saw claimed to teach you all the stuff in a weeklong seminar as if you could learn and remember all that in 1 week which takes Amberbook 2 months to teach. Amberbook is hard and requires sacrifice, but If I could give anyone any advice for the tests then it would be this:
- Use Amberbook and trust it.
- Prioritize your life. I have kids and I made sure I spent time with them each day.
- Make time for God, im sure this sounds ridiculous to some, but I made an effort (which I am terrible at doing, but actually did this time) to read scriptures everyday after studying. I remembered and understood things from Amberbook better when I did this and meditated.
- Use Amberbook (yep I said it again, cause prayer alone wont make up for the amazing content).
I hope this helps someone and good luck,
Paul

Thank you so much for this post. A little background, I have taken PCM and PJM and have not passed. I signed up for amber book this month in order to take PCM in January. I got through the Pro Practice Content so far but I haven't been in the greatest mental headspace. I've essentially been studying since May with no real breaks. I think I am burnt out. I have decided to start from scratch and follow the Amber flow starting in the New Year. I hope this works for me.
