Online Proctoring - Technical Issues
Before the exam, I did several practice tests with Proproctor using my equipment and the system checks were approved and the tests ran well. However, minutes into launching the official test today, my speakers stopped working and I could no longer hear the proctor. The proctor advised me through chat messaging to end the exam and try to log back in. I added my headset after trying external speakers that failed. Once logged back in, the proctor reminded me that NCARB does not allow headsets. Therefore, I logged out once more and switched from my PC to a laptop. Unfortunately, once I logged back in and finally got into the exam, the new equipment did not work well. Systems were stalling and prevented me from performing simple tasks such as: properly using the functions of the whiteboard when opening/closing or adjusting its placement on the screen, entering, backspacing or deleting text in the whiteboard, and there were moments when the whiteboard was completely unresponsive and unable to close which did not allow me to advance to another question. The inability to move the whiteboard also caused portions of the questions to be blocked from complete viewing. At one point everything on my screen went black for a brief moment and I notified the proctor when the screen became visible again. The proctor then informed me my camera was not functioning through chat messaging, yet my camera was still on. Once again, I was told I would have to exit and log back in. Once logged back in, I had to go through the complete check-in process again - of which I didn't mind, but It appeared that after this process I had less time remaining. The previous proctor, however did say the exam would be paused. While all of these occurrences were frustrating, more importantly, it hindered my progress and speed of advancing through the exam to address more of the questions. Needless to say, I ran out of time before being able to complete the exam. I did not have the opportunity to even review the second case study or any of the associated questions. I understand that it is better not to leave any questions blank, but even in the last minutes of just trying to enter responses so nothing was left blank, I faced lag time. These issues are documented with the various proctors as I reported them as they occurred. Of the different proctors I encountered, all were nice and responsive but the technical problems did not make for a pleasant first time testing experience. Any advice on how to address these concerns would be appreciated.
