question in Ballast (8)
Hi guys, I have some questions about below image. The graph highlighted shows a cable just floats over the membrane but not collects to it. How can this shape be more stable? I hope some one can kindly answer my questions. Many thanks in advance.

The graphic here does not do a good job depicting what it is trying to represent.
The cable draped over the suspended membrane would be tightened, which would pull the draped membrane to its max tightness. Effectively the counter force of the cable TIGHTENS EVERYTHING so the system becomes more stable.
If you walked up and pushed one end of the membrane perpendicular to its draped direction, it would simply tip over in the direction you pushed it.
The cable tightens the membrane so that if you tried to push it over you would not be successful.
It would be much easier to show this in graphic form, but I hope that helps you.
