Doe payment application need to be paid in full?
I just took the Black Spectacles Practice Exam and one of the questions is "the architect has received the attached pay application on the same day that they received the storefront submittal. Based on the information in the pay application, how should the architect advise the owner to proceed regarding the pay application?"
I choose the answer "pay the amount excluding the storefront", but black spectacles shows "ask for a revised payment application with a revised, lower payment for the storefront" as the correct answer. The explanation is "the payment application should be paid in full, therefore the owner should request a revised payment application with a lower charge for storefront."
However, both the Article 9.4& 9.5 in AIA A201 and G702 seem to allow architect to certify part or full payment amount for the application.
I assume we should follow the AIA documents, however since Black Spectacles claimed to be the NCARB approved study material, I just want to make sure.
Thank you!

I think Black Spectacles’ answer is correct. The architect has received the shop drawings of the storefront, which means the subcontractor has already spent a substantial amount of time to generate the shop drawings, asking for "a revised payment application with a revised, lower payment for the storefront" is including the labor cost for generating the storefront shop drawings in the payment request to make it a full payment. The rest of the money for the storefront will be paid later when they are delivered and installed.
Your choice does not include the labor cost for generating the storefront shop drawings and will pay the contractor less money than the correct answer, and is not a payment in full.
