Noise barrier with grade changes?
When comes to noise barriers, the site planning and design handbook notes that a barrier is best when its closest to the source.
What about using grade changes as the sound barrier?
Chapter 7, page 237 talks about grade variation to be used on sound control too.
Is one better than the other when given the choice? (between a barrier close to a highway or having a grade change between the house and highway)

Lila, barrier close to the source (or close to the receiver) is best….it doesn’t matter if the barrier is a wall or earth berm, as long as it is taller than the direct line of sight between source and receiver…taller still is better still, but outdoor barriers of any kind don’t work as well as most people think that they will.
