How is Azimuth measured?

As is usually the case with “conflicts” in different trusted sources, there probably is just positive ambiguity at work…It can be measured either as, for instance, “24 degrees west of south” or as “204 degrees” (obviously clockwise from north)….with so much of solar geometry happening in design software, and with design software defaulting to degrees clockwise from north, I suspect that the second mode is gaining popularity….know that it will most likely be worded on the exam as degrees east or west of south and it will likely be made clear to the test taker what exactly is meant. Good luck. Michael Ermann, Amber Book creator

I almost forgot—spoiler—by coincidence and in light of the upcoming equinox we’ll be covering solar geometry on this week’s 40 Minutes of Competence Zoom call (free to all). Thursday at 6ET.

It is measured just like the angles on a compass.  Just like math class in high school or AutoCAD.  On the ARE north will probably be 0°, but the multiple choice answers may be expressed in degrees off of N, S, E or W.  So, 15° south of east for example, instead of 105°.  It's easy enough to convert. No need to watch a 40 min webinar/infomercial when it's a topic that can be covered in 5 min.
