    NCARB

    Hi all,

NCARB has identified and resolved the case study reference issue. Check out this post for more information - https://are5community.ncarb.org/hc/en-us/community/posts/11955821208727

Victoria, I'm so sorry this happened to you too, I completely understand the frustration, and i am beyond frustrated to know that SO MANY people are having the SAME ISSUE, and NCARB does NOT OWN UP to their mistakes! I recently failed on my last exam because I couldn't access the case studies, and PSI called NCARB, and instructed me to FINISH the exam... and try my luck passing the exam, so obviously i finished the exam and FAILED, but now I need to wait 60 days to take it again, my LAST exam that I studied like crazy to pass, and it sounds like there is NOTHING they are willing to do to make this right... Unfortunately I don't know if there is anything we can do about it. They gave me a free seat, and told me to wait 60 days to take it again.

the lady at my PSI (california) told me that this started about 2 weeks ago and that almost everyone taking the exam has this problem now.  I am not really sure how to succeed in a situation where the exam itself is almost certain to malfunction during the exam.

Rodrigo, I saw your post on the same thread and am so sorry to hear this was your experience as well. I had no idea about NCARB’s nuanced rules revolving around this issue, such as exposure to 75%+ of the exam content = minimum 60 day wait period. This seems especially unfair considering that the case studies are at the end of the test, and therefore most candidates do not encounter this problem until they have effectively seen over 75% of the test. In my opinion, sitting for an exam and being expected to “check to see if the case studies work properly first” is not an acceptable solution. This still forces the candidate to reschedule for another exam which may or may not work (or try to score near perfect on the remainder of the test). For most of us who work full time and have lives outside of pursuing licensure, constant rescheduling and hoping the exam works properly can throw a real wrench in work and family plans. I’m happy to hear NCARB was able to credit you a “free” seat at the very least (as is right), and hope the next one goes much more smoothly.

Robert, I completely agree..the uncertainty of whether my next exam will function properly or not is a huge concern. After my test today I learned at least one other licensure candidate during my testing session had the exact same problem. This really is the last thing we should have to worry about.

@Robert Ward, that's odd. My co-worker (who has an exam appointment in 2weeks) called NCARB this morning and they told her they learned about the situation only last weekend. I'm sure the other exam takers in the past 2weeks would report this incident to NCARB as nobody could take these software errors lightly. Question is: why NCARB has not done anything about this all this time????

    Hi Victoria,

Sorry to hear that this happened to you. I experienced the same issue yesterday. I completely agree with you that checking the case study first is not an acceptable solution, and neither does getting seat credit alone. NCARB should be held accountable for its own mistake. We should all demand NCARB also give us an extension on the rolling clock on top of the seat credit, and make official announcements in the future about issues like this to let people know in advance and reschedule, and extend the rolling clock.

Just had the same issue today.

Reading the amount of the same issue happening to my colleagues,
Knowing that NCARB is and was aware of the issue (as per the NCARB associate who answered my phone call as well as the one who answered the PSI associate) and did not notify testers or testing centers that we should first check to see if the case study references are downloading or not before sitting for hours of brain abuse just to come to the end of the exam to find this. I believe the least and fair thing that NCARB should do here is to manually re-evaluate every test with this issue based on the exam without the case study questions. Not letting us have to go through the exam again. You’re teaching us how to act professionally so this is the least professional response we should expect from NCARB.
And I’m not just making this up because I failed. No I did study enough for the exam and I just passed PPD on my first try last week and I had full confidence going into this exam that I’m passing.
I hope you look into this.
    Respectfully.

Or another option is evaluate the exam giving full credit to case study questions. Percentages either way should be fair.
    Thank You

This also happened to me taking my NCARB practice test. I thought my internet was the problem. Obviously it’s NCARB platform.

This happened to me on 01/23. On my next exam I think to start with the Case study questions.

I still can not get over the fact that NCARB is issuing exams in which the candidates are unable to see the test content. I truly hope the board takes it upon themselves to be more transparent with candidates going forward.

The response I received from a senior specialist with customer relations said this was an ongoing problem and that "Most candidates have been able to complete their exams without encountering this issue."

While I think that's good for most candidates, there are clearly a significant fraction who I'm sure would have appreciated a heads up that this was an issue (not to mention the PSI folks administering the exams). Trying to deal with this on the fly in a timed session without the ability to pause the session for fear of losing work, alongside PSI staff who were equally unprepared for the issue, was highly stressful and unnecessary. Like so many others here, I think this is a poor way of handling a known problem, and unfairly places the consequences on those paying NCARB under the assumption that exams will be functional/uncorrupted.

I don't understand if NCARB is aware of the problem and did not specifically send a general email for test takers that we should start with the case studies when most of us leave the case studies to the end, and this is how the NCARB test is organized, how can NCARB penalize us by the 60 day retake policy just because we only discovered this problem at the moment we reached our case study questions?

    NCARB please advise.

    Thank you

Update: I received an email from NCARB saying they have resolved the glitch in the exam and will look into each exam result to determine whether or not to void the 60dd wait period. You might be getting one soon.

I spoke to NCARB this morning and they said it’s very few people that got this problem and it only happened these past few days. I asked her to look at all these complaints to know that it’s not few people and it’s been going on for weeks not days and we have not been notified before our tests. Hopefully they look more into it. That’s really not fair.
