PDD NCARB PRACTICE EXAM QUESTION ABOUT PROJECT MANUAL
Can someone please clarify below from NCARB PDD PRACTICE EXAM:
It conflicts with the information from Ballast that the bond forms are included with the contract information.
Thank you
The owner provides the architect with specific performance and payment bonds for the project.
In which section should the architect place the performance and payment bond information?
A. | 00 40 00 - Procurement Forms and Supplements |
B. | 00 72 00 - General Conditions |
C. | 00 73 00 - Supplementary Conditions |
D. | 00 50 00 - Contracting Forms and Supplements |
CORRECT RESPONSE
00 73 00 - Supplementary Conditions
Supplementary Conditions is where owner-specific items are located in the specifications. The Supplementary Conditions section supplements (or changes) the general conditions of the contract.

Hello Yvette,
The question is asking where the owner specific requirements for those performance and payment bonds would be located, not where the bond forms themselves would be placed.
NCARB is not affiliated with Ballast, and our volunteer architects utilize the resources listed in the Reference Matrix to author ARE items.

Hello James,
You are correct that the actual bond forms have their own division, 00 61 00. The question though is asking where the owner provided requirements for those bond forms is to be placed. Since that information is a supplement to the general conditions, it would go in section 00 73 00 - Supplementary Conditions. We will revise this item on future releases to make that intent more clear.

NCARB,
Question 69 on the PA practice exam notes that 42" is required for the latch approach door, under the given conditions (54" clear space), but this contradicts ADA guidlines, which specifies 24" for a latch approach door, and 48" for hinge approach. I'm putting this comment here so that I can reach you.

I was trying to suggest that maybe it was a misunderstanding of the question, as there is a 42" in there, for a lateral approach and there are always two dimensions required. I am not looking at the question and you didn't specify what dimension was being asked for - I struggle with these in application - so I looked it up for myself. Perhaps the question is wrong. It was good review for me. I hope you get some clarification.

Hello James,
Please make sure to create a new thread for individual questions on the practice exam to help keep the discussion on topic to the original post and reach more community members. Also, the practice exams randomize the order of the questions so the item number will be a different question each time. In any future posts on the practice exam it is helpful to include a screenshot of the item or to copy and paste the full text.
I was able to find the one I believe you were referencing and have included a screen shot below. Based on the layout, you are correct in your comment. The response rationale says a latch side approach but the approach box shown and dimension noted as correct is for a hinge side approach. That hinge side approach would not fit however, since the return wall to the left of the door would prevent an approach from that side.
We will have our item writing architect volunteers review and revise this item as necessary for a future release of the practice exam.
