Are the references in the practice exam the same as the ones we get in the actual exam?

    Hi Dulce,

Yes, the references on the actual exam are identical to what you will see in the ARE 5.0 Demonstration Exam.

Thank you Nick, does that include the zoning reference for the case studies?

Hanna, I'm referring to PPD :)

    Hey Dulce,

No, case study resources are different for each division and case. My above comment was referring to the "References" button within the top menu bar. This is the same across all divisions of the ARE.

    Hi Joan,

Are candidates given the option of using a handheld calculator during testing?  I thought I saw a post about that elsewhere here, but I wasn't given a handheld calculator at my last exam.  I know there is one available online, but having a handheld one would be better since there is so much toggling between screens on the exam.

    Thanks, Kirsten

    Kirsten,

The available option is the on-screen calculator.  That policy hasn't changed.

how about making a pdf of the references available so folks aren't spending a lot of time searching for current reference materials or taking screenshots off the practice software (once they figure out that they are in there)? might help some folks. just an idea.

I recently took PPD & PDD and found the loading of reference material PDFs to be very slow on the case studies. A hard copy would be very helpful to use as a back up reference. In case the computers at the testing center are slow.

I know NCARB is trying to be fair to all the exam candidates. However, what Meghan pointed out which is exactly the same as my past experience. There are some unnecessary headaches such as PDFs loading are slow, and drawings are not readable because of the small PC screen, etc.
