    Congrats on your pass! :)

On the AHPP book, relevant is chapter 5 to the test? I ask because this is a rather long chapter. I feel like the information I read and studied on that chapter did not stick to me very well.

Congrats Michael. No better feeling than putting in the hard work and seeing a PASS at the end!

    Elsa,

Chapter 5 is quite long indeed. I think the chapter as a whole is important to understand but I don't know how many specific questions would be brought out of that chapter and placed on the exam. I read through 5 (and all of the "important" chapters) once through, very thoroughly but chapter 5 was not one of the ones that I re-read from start to finish multiple times. I think if you can devote whatever time you need to thoroughly read it once and comprehend it, that's a great foundation to have. It's a lot of good information but it's also basic, not like chapter 7 where you have to really delve into the details to try to get your head around it. Hope that helps!

Hi Elsa, I didn't read all of Chapter 5.  More of a skim than a close reading of that content for me, there were other areas I was weaker in that I focused my attention to.  PcM was my second test, took PjM first ( about 4 wks ago ) I think the overlap between the two tests helped reinforce a lot of what I read and filled in a few gaps in my study.

    Thanks Randall!

    Congrats on passing!

I am in the process of studying for Practice Managment.  Regarding the Schiff Hardin Lectures - I have listened to the first B-101 lecture and have found it to be helpful as well.  For Practice Management specifically, which ones did you listen to?

    Hi Kelly,

I listened through all the lectures while studying for Project Management, about 4-6 wks prior to sitting for Practice Management.  That being said, I gave the B101 and A201 lectures another listen, as well as the couple lectures regarding business structure / office setup + expenses.

I know B101 + C401 are listed as the only contracts to reference for PcM, and found that to be pretty reliable.  However, for understanding it helped me to be familiar with A201, A132, A133, A141, some of the G-series of contracts.  They serve as good background to help illustrate the interests of each party in regards realizing the construction of a building.

    Hope this is helpful.

    Michael,

It is, thank you.  I did ask because B101 and C401 are the listed contracts to reference for PcM in the ARE Handbook, so I wasn't sure if it would help to get a better overall understanding to listen through some of the other lectures as well.

    Thanks!

Did you study this material in this order? Thanks!

    Sources I studied

    • AHHP -- I read the chapters outlined as relevant to the test.  I echo all the others with this book, it is the go-to resource for PjM + PcM.
    • Ballast -- My office graciously provides the Ballast 5.0 materials [ study book, practice problems, practice exam ] these are nice to study from, but certainly not the end all be all.  I would have had a rough time in the test center personally if I relied on this material solely.
    • Schiff Hardin Lectures -- Another echo, but it bears repeating -- these lectures are great to shed light on the contracts and their applied effects.
    • Various miscellaneous resources from google queries similar to 'ARE 5.0 Practice Management Tips'

No particular order.  A lot of back-and-forth -- as I tired with one source, I would switch to another.
