I've used Ballast 5.0 and Kaplan/ Ballast 4.0 materials to study for PPD and PDD. I'm sorry I can't answer your question regarding the other materials, but even with the mistakes, the 5.0 Ballast is essentially their 4.0 material reorganized into the new categories. I've also highly utilized youtube for some structures-related content and I'm confident that other 4.0 materials that thoroughly cover the topics will be just as good for 5.0. Ballast had a lot of errors, but a decent portion of those were typos and formatting that were easy to pick out (in my opintion).

Thanks Anne for your response! I just got my hands on the 5.0 Brightwood/Kaplan books, so I am hoping to use those too (used them on PPP,CDS, and SPD). Have you taken PPD and PDD yet?

I've taken PPD and passed! I take PDD on 04/20. I used a lot of 4.0 materials (Ballast, Kaplan, JennyPDX, and Caroline's notes) - I take as many practice tests as I can get my hands on. I also study almost solely by making flashcards. I take the questions I get wrong on the practice tests and extrapolate those topics to get the best understanding I can using their explanations for why an answer is "more right" than others listed. One of the things I've noticed is that incorporation of multiple systems and their effects on other elements is a huge portion of both of those tests, and those are the topics I try to notice and focus on when I read through a study guide. Good luck!! I'm sure the Kaplan 5.0 books will be helpful as well!

    Hi Rachel,

Sorry for my delayed response! I have purchased the Amber Bundle! However, I have been quite swamped with work recently so I have only gone through a couple of lessons, so I am not sure I can give a thorough review quite yet.... Are you still considering purchasing it/purchased it yet? Hoping I can give a better review in a week or so.

    Anne,

Thanks for your info + congrats on passing! I used your method on my previous 4.0 exams and passed, but I never felt confident leaving the exams. Plus, the size of the new 5.0 kaplan books scared me away. I try to only study for a maximum of 5 weeks, and I realized I could not cover a couple hundred pages in that time. But I might drag Jenny PDX and carolines notes back in for some extra review. And I agree, take as many practice tests as you can and review review review!

    Kathryn,

I strongly consider the Amber Book seminars by Michael Errman. I took them the last two weekends and found them very helpful. The abundance of information he is able to go over (and make you understand) in 6 days is unbelievable.

I scheduled PPD & PDD right after the class & feel pretty confident. Michael really forcused on bigger picture concepts & how things worked, which is system is used where, advantages, disadvantages, money, climate etc.

I would of never been able to cover that much material that quickly on my own. The feeling of confidence going into these technical exams felt crazy but honestly, it makes me want to schedule my last two for next week. I don't want the knowledge to get lost with time.

Anyways, I would highly recommend the seminars / Amber Book. I will keep these books forever. Very useful for practice.
