I thought I would share some of my experience with the ARE 5.0 - Practice Management Exam. I took my first exam yesterday morning. For the most part I thought the exam was tough, but definitely doable. I used the Ballast Review Manual, Study Problems and Study exam to prepare for this test. I prepared for about a month, which for me I feel like was just a little too short. I feel like I should have used the Architect's Handbook for Professional Practice more in my studies, as well as key points made in the Ballast review manual. Since I did not know exactly where to start, or what to study, I went from the Ballast Review Manual, Study Problems and then the Study exam. I am at the point now, that if I fail, that this first round of testing, will be treated as a pre-exam and now I know exactly how to position myself to pass the next time. With NCARB's incentive to test early, I am lucky enough to take this exam again at no charge, which I will fully take advantage of if I have to. I thought that it was strange that I could use the number pad to input answers in questions that needed a number value and that when I used the calculator in the exam, that I couldn't use the number pad??...be aware of this as it will take time to punch in the numbers with your mouse on calculation problems. Other than that, I was able to go through the questions fairly easy, with enough time at the end to go over the questions that I red flagged. I recommend this option, because you have the ability to go back and review your answers, which for me after reading the question again, I could come up with a better answer. Good luck!
