Another Question About These Here Gift Cards

    Hi Shawn,

I actually asked this same question on a different thread: https://are5community.ncarb.org/hc/en-us/community/posts/239437428/comments/249174527

I was told that it doesn't replace the previous incentive -- it adds to it. I understood that as, if you're still within the first 600 when you take your test mid-February, you still get the, as you put it, "sweet sweet plastic."

    Hope this helps,

    Stephanie

    Hi Stephanie,

I read the entire thread and do not understand it to mean gift cards will continue beyond January 31 regardless of whether the 600 threshold has been met.  If what you say is the case, then NCARB should release a statement clearly indicating that.  In fact, NCARB's Twitter feed clearly states (from a Jan 4 tweet) that testing must be completed by 01/31.

Ryan NCARB, what say you?  As a side, I'd love Stephanie to be right.

    Best,

    Chris

    Chris,

I was referring to the first couple comments -- in which the exact quote from Ryan is "And it adds to the previous incentive structure." He also didn't discredit the example I provided above that comment, which is quite similar to what Shawn had asked in this thread. That's my basic reasoning for how I understood it. But, like you said, a clearer statement would be helpful.

I also take Stephanie's thread to mean this new offer is in addition to the original offer. I personally don't need an official statement, Ryan's post seems pretty clear. Once we're past the 31st, you can still get the gift cards, just gotta be one of the first 600 for that division. Of course its a gamble if you schedule a test for a couple weeks out when the current number is close to the cutoff, but if you do end up post-600, you'll get your results faster, so there's no reason to expect the incentive at that point. In the grand scheme, $100 is nice to have, but getting your test scores quickly is nice as well. So it seems to me that it evens out. Thanks for the info Stephanie.

Again, I don't read that at all.  Furthermore, the thread is much older than last week's tweet that contradicts exactly what you just said.  To further my point, below is a quote from Ryan yesterday on the above thread.

    Ryan's exact words:

    "Hey Caroline,

The gift cards don't work quite that way.  However, if you schedule and take your PDD exam before January 31st, you will receive a gift card for both divisions!"

In no mention of the above is there a "or until the 600 threshold is met".  Until I hear otherwise, I believe you are incorrect.

Oops...some confusion on the gift cards related to 600 and/or January 31st.  Hopefully this helps clear it up:

Between now and January 31st, if you sit of any division of ARE 5.0 you are guaranteed to recieve a $100 gift card.  It doesn't matter if you are tester number 550 in a division or tester number 601 in a division.

After January 31st, we will still be giving out gift cards to the first 600 testers in all divisions.  For PPD those will likely be gone, and getting close to gone in PDD and PcM.  But in PjM, PA, and CE the number of administrations is lower, so gift cards will likely still be available in those divisions.

    Is that more clear??

Thanks, Ryan.  This is exactly what I wanted to hear from NCARB.  If I may, this bit of info is not exactly widely published, and if it were, I think it would certainly speed up the cut score process (it has certainly motivated me).

For a point of reference, I tested 12/12 (PjM) and have yet to receive the card.  So, I'm guessing, we are looking at least a month from when we test to actually receiving this nice perk.  (I don't think I'm disseminating anything confidential here.)

    Best,

    Chris

Chris...we thought we had widely published this, but based on some of the confusion here, it sounds like we could do a better job of doing so.  Believe me - I'd love to speed up the cut score process for you all!

A month is about right on receiving the gift cards, particularly over the holidays.  We pull the testers list about once a week and send it to our vendor who processes and sends the gift cards out to you all.

    Thanks for the feedback!

Thanks for the swift reply, Ryan.  No, it's not widely published at all.  I have a feeling this thread will change that.  I'd be so bold as to say this will energize the community even more.

Just to add my two cents I felt this was widely understood too Ryan, and have seen a number of posts regarding this over different threads.  Either way one more post can't hurt.

What I am more excited about is your comment that PPD will likely be gone by January 31st and PDD close to gone?!  I'm hoping that means a lot more testers have scheduled/taken their tests since the last update numbers were published on 1/3 when we were at 480/275?  Crossing my fingers that testing has sped up after the holidays and we'll find out our results soon!

    Hi Jennifer,

Please reply with a direct quote or link indicating the 600 threshold continuing beyond 01/31 other than Ryan's quote of "And it adds to the previous incentive structure.", which I don't consider to be widely published.  Not trying to be contentious here, but as regular visitor to this thread, it was never clear to me and I was waiting for some other word.

To the larger point, hearing that 3 of the 6 divisions are close to establishing scores is great.

Hi Christopher, honestly I don't have time to go sift through all the articles I may have read looking for this, but my general point was I, like others noted above, felt that it was clear.  If you didn't feel the same thats perfectly fine.  If I happen to come across it when reading in the future I'll post it here.

    Hi Jennifer,

We can move past it as Ryan has cleared the air.  Believe me, it wasn't just me (or the gentleman who created this particular thread) who was unclear, the question was posed on a separate thread (below) just today, to which Ryan provided the same response there as well after responding here.  The current administration numbers can also be found in the thread below.  PDD is noted at 275 taken and scheduled.
