The fundamental structural concepts that will definitely be tested in ARE exams...
No need to memorize complicated structural formulas. There are only a few structural concepts that are fundamental in architectural practice and will be tested in ARE exams one way or another:
One of the is the concept of cantilever beams. The key concept is a cantilever beam is different from a regular beam.
A regular beam with one support at each end of the beam has tension at the LOWER portion of the beam, and if it is a concrete beam, the rebars should be placed at the LOWER portion of the beam.
A cantilever beam has tension at the UPPER portion of the beam, and if it is a concrete beam, the rebars should be placed at the UPPER portion of the beam.
You are welcome to add the important structural concepts at this thread.
