Terrible PSI Testing Experience
Today I took the PM ARE in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. This was my first experience testing at a PSI proctoring facility, and it was terrible. The facility was noisy and distracting. I was wearing the noise canceling headphones (which didn't seem to be doing their job) during the exam, but could still hear not only everyone talking in the waiting room area, but also a child crying in the neighboring office suite. The staff were noisy and talked loudly within the exam room. The door between the exam room and the waiting room was only partially closed most of the time.
After the exam, I complained to the staff about the noise levels. They said that their company was too cheap to soundproof the room & that they also periodically request that the neighboring office suite's occupants keep their noise levels down.
Additionally, having taken all my other ARE's with Prometrics, I expected to be patted down, to turn out my pockets, and to have my eyeglasses inspected. The staff did none of this. While I was reading the waiver or whatever the paperwork is that they give you to sign pre-exam, I also couldn’t focus because the staff were arguing with someone who supposedly didn’t have proper documentation to take his exam. The staff were unprofessional and poorly trained.
The fact that NCARB either doesn't vet PSI's testing facilities & staff or doesn't care about the quality of the facilities & staff erodes the professionalism of the licensure process.
