Gravel and gravelly?
The definitions between gravel and gravelly? The PA exams noted to questions with gravelly. Internet says two different definitions:
Rocky or gravelly soil: Gravel is very small, irregular pieces of rock and stone. It is more rough and rocky than sand, and smaller than stones. Soil that is rocky or gravelly will have a large proportion of rocks or gravel.

Gravelly soil contain a high proportion of small stones. Technically, a small stone is called gravel if it’s greater than 2mm in diameter. It’s a grain of sand if it's less. Gravelly soils aren’t a recognized type in most gardening books. This is because gravels can be light soils, composed mainly of sand, or can contain much clay. So they are strongly influenced by other components.
Two different definitions. Was it just meant as gravel?

Hi Lila,
It's in the Fundamentals book. Gravel is small rock particles 3/4" - 3 1/2" in size. Rocks bigger than that are called cobbles. They can be picked up by hand. Gravel and gravelly soils just denote that soil is typically a mixture of different types of materials. Gravel would be primarily gravel and "gravelly" would have other soils mixed in. It's not a highly technical term...
Hope this helps!
