Caisson vs Pile
For this question, I don't understand why the bearing pile would not work. Doesn't pile also reach deeper into the soil to the layer which is structurally sound?

My understanding from Amber Book, Caissons/Cofferdams mean box and will sit directly on bedrock while keeping the water/soft soil out. The Concrete bearing piles would rely on the friction and bedrock that it sits on, but since the soil is soft and water bearing soil is present; this type of foundation would not be adequate. Maybe Amber book can provide more information.
