    No, you cannot get a license without taking the ARE exams now. Many years ago in some states, you may be able to grandfather in as a practicing architect to get a license without an exam.

    “A legislature may provide that certain persons who have practiced architecture for a period of time prior to legislation requiring an examination may register as architects without an examination. Such a statutory provision is called a GRANDFATHER CLAUSE.”
