Released December 9, 2020
The updates to the Architect Registration Examination® (ARE®) 5.0 and the option to test via online proctoring launch on Monday, December 14.
Starting December 14, you’ll be able to schedule an online proctored exam in My NCARB, or reschedule an existing in-person appointment to be taken online.
Exam Changes
Whether you choose to test online or in-person, the changes to the exam’s navigation and timing will go into effect on December 14. You can read an overview of the upcoming changes in our Guide to Online Proctoring, and watch our exam team provide more details in a recording of our recent live webinar. Plus, be sure to test out the new flexible break functionality in the updated demo exam.
What to Expect on Test Day
Prepare for your upcoming exam appointment by reviewing the procedures you’ll need to follow when testing, including how to complete the check-in process for both online and in-person exams. If you are planning on testing using online proctoring, be sure to check out the tips for setting up your exam space below.
Tips for Setting Up Your Exam Space
We know you have a lot of questions about how to set up your space when you’re taking an online proctored exam. Watch as a member of our exam team walks you through how to make sure your room is exam-ready, including what can be on your workspace, setting up your webcam, and configuring your computer.
Webcam Update
To help you navigate the online proctored check-in process, we’ve updated our webcam requirements to include the ability to autofocus. This enables your proctor to fully visualize your ID, surroundings, and person throughout your appointment. As a reminder, you must use an external webcam that you can move as necessary to provide a 360-degree view of your environment.
To help offset the cost of purchasing an external webcam with autofocus capabilities, we’re offering a one-time, $50 prepaid card to all candidates who schedule their first online proctored appointment.
